The common way to Venice is travelling by train or boat. Besides, there are other options for you.
By plane: the nearest airport is Marco Polo aiport which is 12 km from Venice. The Treviso airport is the main venue of budget flights like Ryanair, SkyEurope and Transavia. Both airports have bus system connected to Venice’s Mastre and Piazzale Roma.
By train: trains run to Venice’s Santa Lucia railway station from other locations in Italy and Europian cities like Munich, Budapest, Paris, Vienna,etc
By car: cars arrive from the west of Venice and are only allowed to park at the entrance to the city. Parking charges here are quite expensive, about €20 for every 24 hours. A better way is parking near the Mestre station and then catching the train to Venice.
By rental car: tourists can easily hire a car in Venice. Most car-rental companies have their outlets in Piazzale Roma, at Marco Polo aiport or near Mestre train station.
By bus: buses run between Marco Polo aiport and Piazzale Roma. There are 2 trips every hour, taking 20 minutes and costing €5. Piazzale Roma’s buses also arrive other destinations on the mainland.
By boat: Minoan Lines and Anek Lines have their ferries running to Venice from Greece. Besides, there are Venezia Lines’ boats run to and from Croatia and Slovenia in summer.

Venice is a walking city. Aside from it, travelling by vaporetto, water taxis and gondola are other choices.
Walking: Venice is not big so you easily walk around. Walking through the streets and sightseeing will be interesting experiences. However, walking and standing all day may make you exhauted.
Vaporetto (water bus): is the best way to move around. The cheap ride’s cost and convenience are this transportation’s advantages.
Water taxi: this transportation is expensive, yet very convenient. You can share the ride with other guests if you don’t want to pay much.
Gondola: is the traditional water transportation of Venice. It is best to travel around Venice in a romatic way, but the cost is extremly high.
